Hit the pipe

Premixed flavours from a French company that display astonishing similarities to another litigious US brand.

Long Castle:

It´s a sitting on the porch sippin’ type vape best with a bourbon/ dark rum and friends. It was originally recommended to me by the reclusive numbers magnate u/1865025r

Think heavily cased pipe tobacco using bourbon that brings out almonds, vanilla, coconut, molasses and even dark chocolate at times, it’s a heavy, swirling experience across your palate that is not for the faint hearted. Turn up the watts and aggressively inhale for something that tastes like a cigar.

I loved it at 10% after a good 3 weeks.

Gambyt:

Apple pie with caramel, cream etc, we have seen a many iterations of this perennial delight over the years and I was looking forward to a good dessert.

Sadly as it turns out this apple pie was made by Stiffler´s mom rather than Nigella.

A lot of apple and what tastes like slightly turned baileys, its cream thin and anaemic, without enough pastry to ground the fruit or spice to intrigue.

8% if you must and leave it for at least a week… if not for eternity

All premixed concentrates were diluted using 6mg/ml Vapfip 80VG/20PG and sampled in a .8 ohm fibre freaks wicked lemo2 firing on a cana at 21.7w.

Nova Liquides

novaliquidesheader

With Europe´s TPD deadline in May approaching, and the increasing interest in DIY, it seemed time to sample some of the premixed concentrates for eliquids.

If (like me) you read the online forums for DIY juice, one of the biggest problems is what we’ll call “flavour acquisition disorder or FAD” where DIY’ers are constantly adding just one or two more flavours to their collection in order to perfect their latest recipe. Many alchemists then find themselves confronted by an embarrassment of failed experiments, storage dilemmas and sadly in some extreme cases… abusive partners.

So if you don’t find fiddling for hours perfecting baked alaska version 37.2 or your homage to a Singapore sling in max VG enthralling, what options are currently available?

Quite a few as it turns out… but today we will simply focus on one.

Nova premixed flavours have a similar taste to some very litigious US brands, although they are manufactured by a French company.

Malibu:

A pina colada style concentrate consisting of pineapple, coconut and what feels like a hint of koolada / menthol. Very smooth, clean tasting and honestly one of the best iterations of this cocktail that I have tried to date, although the rum could be a little more pronounced. Normally they seem to have a plastic taste on the palate but this one rings true. A light and refreshing summer vape best enjoyed after 2 weeks using at 15%.

Mystic Menthol:

Brain freezing, sinus clearing liquid, good after a week, use at 15%.

Chocolicious:

A tragedy… chalky old easter egg chocolate that tastes vaguely of sour milk and disappointment after over a month of steeping / aging / curing.

In a word: Awful… but if aged chocolate is your thing, wait a week, use at 15%

Kringle’s curse:

A perfect candy cane mint style vape, good after a week, use at 15%..

Tiki juice:

An unholy mess of wintergreen and tobacco.

Avoid where possible, but if you must… give it a week, use at 15%

Empire state:

Ry4 with a potpourri of werthers originals and the smoking area in an old folks home.

Like vaping your granny´s tears at 15% after two weeks : (

All premixed concentrates were diluted using 6mg/ml Vapfip 80VG/20PG and sampled in a .7 ohm fibre freaks wicked lemo2 firing on a cana at 24.1w.

NB – These e-liquids do not contain any formaldehyde, paraben, sugar, oil, ambrox, gum or GMO.

Furiosa 2

FULD680

A beautifully packaged new line from Paris, France.

Lava Drops:

They say: Fruits of the dragon, frosted orange and papaya juice.

I say: This unusual juice starts off with a lovely citrusy (blood?) orange dueling with a light papaya and a dragon fruit finish. I always have trouble identifying dragon fruit in e liquids as it tastes of watermelon to me. This gives a light airy and indeed almost wispy finish when combined with the frosted orange.

A perfect summer vape that would pair well with many mixed fruit juices and citrus and rum cocktails.

I look forward to tasting more from this new brand in the future.

This 6mg/ml, 90VG/10PG liquid without any diacetyl, propionyl, methanol, ambrox or paraben was enjoyed in a .74 ohm fibre freaks wicked lemo2 at 3.82v firing on an rx200 at 19.7w.

Furiosa

dragonclouds

A beautifully packaged new line from Paris, France.

Dragon clouds:

They say: A nectarine milkshake with strawberry coulis and crushed cereals.

I say: This is very reminiscent of a fruit loop style liquid. The nectarine is warm and welcoming, without the lemon pledge perfume found in many other eliquids, as the “milkshake” combines to smooth over the harsher edges of the nectarine. The cereal is more of a background as the fruits tend to take centre stage, the strawberry serves only to add a deeper layer of jammy goodness to the mix.

There is also a thrilling sourness through the centre as the nectarine seems to vibrate along your palate. A very enjoyable and well balanced juice, for occasional breakfast vaping, during the morning, afternoon and evening : )

This 6mg/ml, 90VG/10PG liquid without any diacetyl, propionyl, methanol, ambrox or paraben was enjoyed in a .75 ohm fibre freaks wicked lemo2 at 4.09v firing on an rx200 at 22.3w.

I hope to review their latest flavour Lava drops, next week.

Le French Liquide 4

reanimator2

The mad scientists of Venin Divin and Loony Pixie fame have just released another new e juice, called Re – animator II. For those of you who may have missed the first iteration in this series I have included the original flavour review below.
Re-animator:
They say: A fluorescent yellow mix of tangy lemon and lime with a touch of ripe melon.
I say: lemon and lime on the inhale with a lovely long melon finish on the exhale. Great throat hit but I have yet to try it under a black light to see if it really glows? NB the glow is a result of thiamine or one of the other complex b vitamins.

Re – animator II:

They say: a four citrus selection, including green orange, tonic and sparkling notes brought by quinquina (chinchona / quinine) peel. Finally a fresh and French touch specially developed by our mad scientists without menthol and koolada.

I say: There may well be 4 citrus varietals hidden inside this juice but the overwhelming flavour is orange with a hint of pith, not as sweet as Drops orange experience but delicious all the same. The quinine serves to dampen down the fructose while that mysterious “French touch” adds a cooling sensation on the exhale. This is a definite summer vape for me as it feels altogether refreshing rather than cloying on the palate. A slightly bitter orange rather than a mouthful of warm Fanta easily makes this an ADV for me.

Once again its lurid fluorescent green colour is due to high levels of complex B vitamins.

Predator – Fenrir

predatorheader

The latest offering from (OMG) Bombies, with a refreshing lack of hyperbole.
This line seems somewhat simpler than Bombies with each flavour consisting of less complex mixes, this is not to say that they are somehow diminished or poorer quality. Indeed the juice is very smooth and so clean you cannot taste any nicotine whatsoever : )
Phantom:
Described as strawberry milk, this is a strong natural strawberry with a milky background. Comparisons with Novavapes prize winning Strawberry milk are inevitable, yet this is fruit forward liquid with mild milky undertones unlike Nova’s fabulous faux strawberry cereal milkshake. I enjoy both of them equally and urge you to do the same.
Dark:
Described as scotch, almond and vanilla, it is another smooth vape with just enough ethers from the scotch to set it apart from the myriad of vanilla nuttiness we encounter all too often. Bizarrely I found myself constantly awaiting the tobacco finish, which never came, but I did notice a very subtle coconut finish. It pairs very well with scotch (Tomatin) and irish (Redbreast) as well as a cheeky snifter of brandy (Duque de Alba).
Both max vg 6mg/ml juices enjoyed in a 1.3ohm fibre freaks wicked magma on top of a cana firing between 26 and 30 watts.
There are three more flavours in the Predator line that I hope to sample and review next week.
Have a look at their well thought out website here: http://www.predator.io

2015 – a year in eliquids

Looking for something a little different, have a quick look at some of the great European juices I enjoyed over 2015. This list is by no means definitive and I apologise in advance for any unintended omissions : )

Vaponaute – Cherry Blossom

They say: Pistachio biscotti, morello cherries in kirsch, raspberry, almond cream, banana and violets.

I say: The cherry is realistic with just enough sourness and no cough medicine aftershock, the biscuit and the almonds come close behind the initial fruit barrage. Then as the liquid warmed up I began to taste more pistachio, it’s almost chewy in the middle. I get hints of raspberry and violet but only hints until you apply more power and I simply cannot taste the banana, although I suspect they may be using it to smooth out the exhale?

http://vaponaute.com/en/e-journeys/31-cherry-blossom.html

Green Vapes – Ispahan

Although their tobaccos – Black Pearl and 555 also get an honourable mention, I expect even greater things from this company in 2016.

Lychees, roses raspberries and custard combine to make something similar to Vaponaute’s Perfect Day. I also note pistachios and biscuits combining to produce an almost chewy cookie on the palate, an unusual tasty treat from time to time. It is like a good shisha.

http://www.lepetitvapoteur.com/en/green-vapes/1527-ispahan-green-vapes.html

FUU – Low rider

Specially formulated for drippers this juice is a most unusual vape. A mix of Lime and Blackcurrant with a hint of koolada and I suspect some hidden terpenes (Mango) and Pineapple? It also contains ginger. I really enjoyed this juice.

http://thefuu.com/en/239-low-rider.html

Trinitario (arcane line)

Great dark chocolate with a milk chocolate swirl followed by hints of Turkish delight and Strawberry (not unlike the strawberry yoghurt filled Milka chocolate bars). This juice is a grower not a shower, it took 3 drippers before I really took to this juice and I then proceeded to demolish it within 48 hours. A great chocolate vape.

http://thefuu.com/en/143-trinitario-868.html

Le French liquid – Loony Pixie (Pixie line)

They say: a subtly sparkling e liquid with Argentinean lime, absinthe and rum.

I say: Superb, lime and rum tango while haunted by a ghostly green fairy.

http://www.lefrenchliquide.com/pixie/loony-pixie.html

Venin divin (Secrets du Apothicaire line).

They say: a delicate green and floral composition with hibiscus & green tea top notes with Guadaloupe pineapples at the centre and coupled with an absinthe and menthol/ koolada finish.

I say: Superb.

http://www.lefrenchliquide.com/secrets-dapothicaire/venin-divin.html

Halcyon haze – Sergeant Vapour

They say: Vanilla cream on shortbread with a rhubarb and raspberry compote.

I say: More rhubarb and shortbread than anything else the vanilla and raspberry merely serve to smooth the way of the effervescent rhubarb (hints of elderflower or berry?) not for everyone but I really enjoyed this.

http://www.halcyonhaze.co.uk/shop/sergeant-vapour/

13 sins – Susy6

They say: A fruity burst of sweet candy zests, which will excite your taste buds. There are overtones of strawberry, watermelon, and raspberries, followed by a smooth, cream soda exhale with just a hint of freshness. Suzy is a silently seductive all day vape.

I say: They ain’t lying, however this gourmand tastes more of a fizzy melon, a hint of mint and something between candy floss and meringue on the exhale, nevertheless it’s another stonker… comparable to Over the Rainbow by Vaponaute.

A must for all discerning fruitarian vapers!

http://www.13-sins.com/shop/suzy-6/

Jack3

They say: A powerfully moreish toffee popcorn punch, for lovers of all things dessert. The flavour combination is made up of a ripe and bruised banana undertone, and notes of coconut, caramel, raspberries and clotted cream. Jack will keep you coming back for more.

I say: You can barely separate out the flavours here as the ripe banana and slightly salty caramel bombard your palate, the raspberries hiding in the background serving only to add a delightful sour twist like a good coulis dribbled on ice cream. A mouthwatering dessert liquid here, good for evening vaping or even occasional daytime decadence. Huge umami undertones here : )
My S.O. (not a vaper) declared that it was an intergalactic mega dessert… not to be confused with a pan galactic gargle blaster: https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Bartending/Cocktails/Pan_Galactic_Gargle_Blaster

http://www.13-sins.com/shop/jack3/

Nova vapes – Ecr_eu

They say: Designed by /u/maniacpsycho of the /r/ecr_eu community, the competition win for Reddit’s birthday! A candy like raspberry with a pomegranate and passion fruit undertone.

I say: Ranging from sweet to a lip puckering sour, this juice may or may not contain reconstituted Smurfs? At times sherberty and other times dry this is a versatile liquid that never gets old. A contender for best new European eliquid of 2015.

http://novavapes.tictail.com/product/ecr_eu-juice

Strawberry milk

They say: A smooth and creamy milkshake blend with a strawberry body. Perfect for those with a sweet tooth!

I say: To me it tastes like a mix between some unidentifiable American breakfast cereal and strawberry milk / ice cream. A sweet full bodied faux strawberry that is all too moreish…it feels thick in your mouth and leaves a lovely room note. My favourite strawberry vape… to date.

http://novavapes.tictail.com/product/strawberry-milk

Thenancara – Selene

Cherries with a vibrant violet floating over the top. At times mouthwateringly sour (Acerola?) at times sweet, it went from floral to sherberty… lost between Dubonnet, Chambord liqueur and Kirsch this is a really unusual vape. Not an ADV but rather something for a special occasion, it will keep you guessing.

Liquideo – Think

Churchill:
A fabulous melange of Champagne, nettle, vanilla, almonds and green lemon, sounds crazier than attempting to capture the Dardanelles by sea, yet it works, this bottle lasted one hour. Delicious in a decadent yet delicate way, the almond, vanilla and lemon notes are to the fore while the champagne and nettle add a layer of complexity and subtlety to aid the unleashing of your inner gourmand.

Einstein:
Mint + cucumber + lemon + nettle (fresh herbs) = a refreshing vape. Sweet mint followed by cucumber with a lovely light lemon background and a just a hint of herbs at the end, almost but not quite medicinal. Similar to under the sea by Vaponaute, only more ephemeral with a herbaceous border.

Gandhi:
Mildly tangy lemon, mandarin and orange combined with some smooth and creamy Madagascan vanilla make this everything that queenside from 5 Pawns could have been. Think creamsicle/ orange split with a hint of good quality marmalade (a la Mrs Lords).

Marx:
Rum (clear not dark) with almonds, white peaches and nectarine, it’s almost like a pastis only more tropical. A perfect summer cocktail hiding what seem to be hints of anise, not quite an opiate for the masses but a most intriguing vape.

Voltaire:
Cinnamon, lemon, fig and orgeat (almond, sugar and orange flower water, found in abundance in Italian biscotti) combine in this fresh tasting spring/ summer sensation that again disappeared in an hour. Very, very moreish. All the ingredients combine gently until you are unsure as to what exactly is happening with no one note standing proud, a vape that feels wet on the palate… in a good way.

MrsLords – Ginger Nut
Exactly as it claims to be and my favourite of this wonderfully old fashioned line although rumour has it that their new hot toddy is terribly popular. N.B – fudge is delicious too…

http://www.mrslord.co.uk/collections/cakes-custards/products/ginger-nut

Tigre de Bois – La voie du Samovar
Tea, maple, orange, bourbon, cinnamon, cloves and tobacco all combine for an unforgettable vape.

https://www.facebook.com/La-Voie-du-Samovar-964732070218621/

Liquid Voyage – Oh my Lemon Pie
Like some borking madman crammed a tonne of lemon pies into your dripper. Sublime!

http://liquidvoyage.eu/index.php?id_product=35&controller=product

I would also like to mention some of our American friends such as:

DBliquids – Sapphire; blueberry, muffiny custard stuff.

http://dbliquids.com/collections/sweets/products/sapphire

Stash’s – Lushington; great peaches and cream.

http://www.stasheliquids.com/collections/our-blends/products/lushington?variant=830064291

Velvet Cloud’s – Mewlews Magic; a great chocolate fudge dessert.

Finally I would love to hear some of your suggestions for European juices that I should sample and review in 2016.

Have a happy and prosperous 2016!
